Ports of Entry and Departure in the Saskatchewan Southeast Region:

Southeast Saskatchewan receives a high volume of traffic on its highways and through the various points of entry and departure in the region. Recent statistics released by the Canadian Border Service Agency (CBSA) indicate that the volume of entries into south east Saskatchewan is up 20% over 2009 figures (refer to “Total Number of Vehicles Entering Southeast Saskatchewan in 2009” table below). Individuals can now monitor border crossing wait times on Twitter, the social networking and microblogging service online.

Within Canada, south east Saskatchewan has two points of entry/departure with Manitoba, one main point of entry/departure north to Moose Jaw and Regina, and one to south central Saskatchewan immediately to the west. The statistics for these points are as follows:

  • Highway #13 Saskatchewan/Manitoba border 327,405 total vehicles/year, 77,555 commercial vehicles/year

  • Highway #18 Saskatchewan/Manitoba border 276,305 total vehicles/year, 40,150 commercial vehicles/year

  • Highway #13 South East Saskatchewan exiting to the west 295,650 total vehicles/year, 43,800 commercial vehicles/year

  • Highway #39 South East Saskatchewan exiting to the north 1,276,700 total vehicles/year, 243,820 commercial vehicles/year

The south east region has seven land-based points of entry between south east Saskatchewan and the United States of America (U.S.); six within North Dakota which operates on Central Time (CT) and one with Montana which operates on Mountain Time (MT), one hour later than CT. From the eastern corner of the region travelling west they are as follows:

North Dakota

  • Carlievale – Approaching from the U.S. utilizing Highway #28 at the Sherwood port and entering Canada on Highway #8, the Carlievale port is open 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. 7 days a week.
